Blending gentle irony, clear-eyed pain and profound joy, he portrays the many faces of Cameroon: its bustling markets, shared meals, social struggles and dreams that are still very much alive.

This track paves the way for a new Afro Pop Rock album currently in the making, marking a bold new musical direction for Roland: groovier, more dance-driven, yet still guided by the same commitment to authenticity and meaning.

Roland Tchakounté is a singer-songwriter and performer.

Roland Tchakounté is a Cameroonian singer-songwriter and performer based in France, whose deep voice and powerful guitar playing bring to life a unique blues sound, deeply rooted in Africa and open to the world.

Born in Cameroon, Roland grew up immersed in traditional rhythms, ancestral songs and the vibrant energy of Mangambeu. Later, he discovered the blues of the Mississippi and recognised in it the same echoes of pain, dignity and resilience that resonated with his own roots.

From this encounter, he forged a musical identity at the crossroads of cultures: an African blues sung in Bamiléké, his mother tongue, infused with shades of Afro-jazz, Afro-rock and Mandingue soul.

A Humanist Blues Without Borders

More than a musical genre, blues is, for Roland, a language of the soul. Through it, he tells stories of exile, injustice, struggle, tenderness and hope. His voice, often intimate yet always deeply expressive, speaks as much to the heart as it does to the conscience.

Through his albums — Blues Menessen, Ndoni, Waka, Abango, Ngueme and Smiling Blues, among others — he has built a powerful yet uplifting body of work that celebrates human dignity, brotherhood and the courage of people around the world.

Based in France for several years, Roland has performed on stages across Europe and Africa, moving between intimate acoustic sets and powerful, groove-driven performances.

He has shared the stage with major names in blues and world music while remaining true to his own distinctive artistic identity. In his live performances, he blends music, storytelling and his perspective on the world, creating an experience that is sincere, stripped-back and deeply human.
